William Harmon Young
YOUNG, William Harmon, 89, went to heaven on Saturday, October 30, 2010. He was born in 1921 in Dubar, West Virginia and came to Tampa in 1951 after a career playing minor league baseball. Harmon was a proud Marine and American who served his country during World War II and was seldom seen without his Marine cap. His later career was as a painter and wallpaper hanger. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie, son, Robert and 2 great grandchildren. Harmon is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy E. Young; two sons, William H. Young Jr. (Chris) of Pensacola and Jerry Young (Linda) of New Port Richey; two step-sons, Terry Ferguson (Joann) of Tampa and Larry Ferguson (Toni) of Sarasota; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and prayer warrior who wanted everyone to know how great his Lord is. Per his request, there will be no local services. His ashes will be buried in a ceremony 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LifePath Hospice of Temple Terrace or Lake Carroll Baptist Church in Harmon's memory.
