Obituary for Joseph August Schreiber

Joseph August Schreiber, age 86, passed away on August 5, 2017 at his home in West Palm Beach, FL.

Born on May 19, 1931 in Griffith, Indiana, he was a long time resident of Arcadia, FL and a significant founding board member and supporter of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Chapel in Tampa, FL.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth (Theresa) of Mena, AR and his children John (Victoria) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Monica of Atlanta, GA, Peter (Jeannine) of Ft. Myers, FL, Gerard (Michelle) of Lake Worth FL, Vincent (Alina) of Jacksonville, FL, Dominic (Carol) of Temecula, CA, Marian (David) Garren of St. Louis, MO, Christopher (Nikki) of Brighton, CO, and Anthony (Angela) of Jacksonville, FL. He has 23 grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to 25.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, two sisters, Mary Thiel and Katherine Leonard and parents William and Afra Schreiber.

Joseph was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, serving as Military Police from July 1952 until June 1954. He received a National Defense Service Medal.

Prior to and after his military service, he worked for the Wabash Railroad in Indiana. A friend was attending University of Tampa and Joseph moved to Florida to pursue a degree. He completed a degree in Psychology in 1963.

He had a 35 year career with the State of Florida Department of Corrections as Probation and Parole Officer in Sanford, FL and Supervisor in Arcadia, FL.

Starting about 1970, Joseph and his wife Anna worked tirelessly for the preservation of the traditional Catholic liturgy. They contributed time and money as founding parishioners of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima and St. Cajetan, 10360 Atlanta Avenue,Weeki Wachee, FL 34614 (http://latinmasstimes.com/Florida/163) and Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Chapel, 2404 Stuart Street, Tampa, FL 33605, www.immaculateheartofmarychapel.com.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, August 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Adams & Jennings Funeral Home, 6900 N. Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, FL 33604. www.adams-jennings.com. The Rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m.

On Friday, August 11, a Requiem Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in Tampa with Rev. Emilio Fattore officiating. Burial will follow in Brooksville at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary. Please see addresses above and weblinks.
