Obituary for Raymond Truex Naylor

89, walked through the gates of heaven at 11 p.m. on December 24, 2014 in time to join the celebration of his heavenly Father’s birthday. Ray was born in Hillside, NJ and came to Tampa in 1946 after leaving the service. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1984. Ray joined the army at 19 and was assigned to the Intelligence & Reconnaissance Platoon of the 272 Regiment of the 69th Infantry Division. During his service as a T-4 sergeant, he and his division were awarded 3 battle stars for the battles of the Rhine and of Central Germany. He received the Bronze Star for outstanding service holding off the Germans during an enemy ambush, allowing the entire group to escape, losing not one man. He was also awarded the Battle Axe patch and medal pin replica. This medal pin was awarded for extreme valor to only 18 men in his unit. Ray is survived by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Naylor, his bride of 65 years; his two sons, Kirk (Donna) and Craig (Lorri); brother, Robert (Peggy); sister, June Naylor; grandchildren, Jessica (Carlos), Jeremy (Reina) and Kristina; great grandchildren Emily, Kiana, Kayla, Cameron, Alex and Abby; and guardian angels, Myrian Moise and Teresa Boyd. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 709 W. Linebaugh Ave. Tampa 33612. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forest Hills Presbyterian Church or Life Path Hospice.
